HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED ON A FITNESS PROGRAM?

Article written by:

It seems every year we manage to make some new years resolutions but it seems that we have a hard time keeping them. For example, I can only imagine the number of people who have put "lose weight" on their list of things to do last year or the year before. But how many people have actually lost the weight that they wanted to lose, or even worse how many people have planned out their weight loss enough to reach any of their long term goals.

The first step to losing weight in the New Year is to decide on a realistic goal for
yourself. Choosing a weight loss goal can seem daunting, and you might think that just by telling yourself that you want to be thinner or healthier is enough to get yourself into that state. But the truth is that you need to set a numeric goal with a set timeframe in order to really get yourself motivated enough to achieve your goal weight.

Here is an example of a good new year’s resolution goal for weight loss: If you're currently 80 pounds overweight, you can set a goal for yourself to lose 2 pounds every week, or 24 pounds in the next year. Now that you know exactly how many pounds you need to lose, you can start writing a weight loss journal and from there you will have a way for you to track your progress and your inevitable weight loss success.

Of course there will be weeks where losing two whole pounds will seem
impossible, but if you can catch up and lose 3 in the next 2 weeks, then you'll stay on track.

Also note that this weight loss plan is only a change in your diet and not taking in account a structured cardiovascular or weight training regiment. The hardest part of any weight loss diet regime or weight loss exercise regime is sticking to it and staying motivated enough to follow the changes you've made to your lifestyle.

New years are a time to get yourself to become the person you've always wanted to be. So write down your goals and put them on your refrigerator. Seeing your goal every day will give you a kick right where you need it, and you'll be more motivated to go to the gym, avoid the sweets and eat more protein, fruits and vegetables!

I work with all fitness levels and ages in helping them reach there fitness, weight loss and athletic goals. Pro Fitness believes in 4 principles for achieving optimal fitness. They are cardiovascular, strength training, nutrition and
